In 1985, the founders of The Highground Veterans Memorial envisioned a museum, to further the education of visitors about the human cost of war. In the summer of 2010, their vision became a reality, simply called The Learning Center.

The Learning Center reflects The Highground’s emphasis on the Living and invites veterans (and their families) to share their experiences with others through their creative expressions of art, writings, oral storytelling and much more.

The 3-level facility was transformed from a family home into a handicapped accessible gallery, library, and media room. Offices occupy the top floor of the building.

The main floor welcomes visitors into a reception area, gallery, media center, information room and kitchen. Throughout the year, a variety of gallery displays honoring veterans are open to the public; and visual tours of The Highground will be shown daily in the media center.

The walk-out lower level reception room invites visitors into a reading room and library. Visitors are able to browse through the library, select a book and spend time reading in the comfort of the reading room.

The Learning Center offers visitors a warm, dry place during inclement weather, providing space for children’s activities, and a meeting room for various social and service organizations.

As The Learning Center develops and grows into a place of education and spiritual healing, we encourage you to share your ideas with us. We encourage you to experience the Learning Center and become part of the vision of The Highground.
